PC&EC to Hold September 2023 Meeting

Registration Opens for Arkansas Environmental Training Academy

The Arkansas Environmental Training Academy is offering an environmental officer course in Jonesboro on August 15-17, 2023. This is a 24-hour training course on basic environmental crime investigation. This course is designed for solid waste personnel, regulatory inspectors and criminal investigators concerning illegal dumps. Associate Environment Administrator Bailey Taylor says, “As the state Environmental Officer Program Coordinator, I encourage local government involvement in the Environmental Officer program. Arkansas Geological Survey Transitions into the Office of the State Geologist

NORTH LITTLE ROCK— The Arkansas Geological Survey (AGS) will transition into the Office of the State Geologist (OSG) effective July 1, 2023.   According to Act 697 that was enacted this past legislative session, all authority, functions, duties and personnel of the AGS will transfer to OSG within the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission. OSG will remain located at the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment headquarters at 5301 Northshore Drive, North Little Rock, Ark. AIR QUALITY ADVISORY: CODE ORANGE FOR OZONE

NORTH LITTLE ROCK— An OZONE ACTION ADVISORY has been declared for May 26, 2023 and May 27, 2023, for Central and Northwest Arkansas. The Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) forecasts ozone concentrations in Central and Northwest Arkansas that indicate outdoor activities may be unhealthy for active children and adults, and for individuals in sensitive groups. In cooperation with the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), DEQ has issued a “Code Orange” Air Quality Advisory for Ozone, because of projected monitored concentrations above the 8-hour National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) of 0.070 parts per million.
