On Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, the Old State House Museum will open a new exhibit during 2nd Friday Art Night from 5:30 – 8 p.m.
“In Hot Water: Betting on the Spa City” explores the rise and fall of gambling in Hot Springs. After the Civil War, people visited the natural hot springs in pursuit of what they hoped were restorative health benefits. The downtime that came with recuperation from illness gave rise to recreational activities and with that, gambling culture in Hot Springs flourished.
There will be an opening reception with live music, food and refreshments. The event is free to attend.
