Going from desk mates, program buddies, and collection maintenance collaborators to a manager or supervisor can be a big shift in the workplace dynamic. Change comes difficulty to most people; however, it is the only constant we truly have. So now you must embrace the change and learn about your team to establish how to gain buy-in. How do you build trust in you as the leader?
In this informative session, you will learn tips on how to get to know your team, build on their strengths, support them along with your library’s mission, and establish the balance of being a friend and a manager.
As a result of this program, attendees will:
- Get tips to establish buy-in and build team driven mentality
- Learn about different personalities to engage more effectively with other people
- Feel confident in establishing boundaries as a supervisor

Jenny Berry – Biography
Jenny Berry began working in libraries in 2019. She started her journey as a part-time associate in the children’s department, specializing in storytimes, craft programs, and outreach events. She then transitioned to a full-time associate in the teen and adult department specializing in working with teens and seniors, and in outreach events. After working closely as a peer with much of the public services staff for 4 years, Jenny transitioned to manager of the children’s department. Her team had a wonderful mix of staff ranging in creative skills, diverse backgrounds, and longevity with the library.
She was featured in the ILA Reporter in June 2024 about establishing Sensory-Friendly Storytimes at the library. Her mission is to make the library accessible to everyone within the community.
