Home / News / The Social Security Fairness Act

On January 5, 2025, the Social Security Fairness Act was signed into federal law.  The law repeals the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and Windfall Elimination Provisions (WEP) of the Social Security Act.

This law does not affect your APERS/ASPRS/AJRS retirement benefits.  However, some members and retirees may receive an increase in their Social Security benefits.

For more information on the Social Security Fairness Act you can visit the Social Security Administration’s website.  For questions about how the Act affects your Social Security benefits you can call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local Social Security Administration office.
